An'ink-cartridge Problem' message displays on the control panel, and the printer doesn't print.

Solution one: Use genuine HP ink cartridges

Important: before starting, ensure that the newly installed cartridges are suitable for your printer and that they are genuine HP cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the reliability or quality of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP capsules, the steps in this record might not resolve the issue. To check the validity of your capsules, go to the H P anti-counterfeit page (in English).
Purchase replacement cartridges and other equipment against the HP Store or local retailers.

Solution 2: be certain the ink cartridges are installed properly.

  • The control panel could display an error message in case the ink cartridges aren't inserted correctly. Make sure the ink cartridges have been inserted properly.
  • Press the Power button to start the printer, even if it's not already on.
  • Open the cartridge access door. The carriage goes into the guts of this printer. Wait before carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

Find: Open the cartridge access door. Make sure the colored icon on each cartridge tag fits the colored icon onto the carriage slot. Press down on any capsule that's a bit higher compared to the others to snap it securely into place.

Solution 2: Remove and reinsert the capsules
Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves into the center of the printer. Wait before carriage becomes lethargic and silent before continuing.

Press from the port on the leading part of the cartridge to release this, and then pull it up and out to eliminate it out of its own slot.

  • If the error message cites a specific cartridge, then find that cartridge, then remove it from the carriage. Carry on with the next step.
  • When the error message doesn't cite a specific cartridge, then remove all of the capsules, one at a time. Continue with the next step.


Learn: Remove the ink cartridge out of the slot
With the cartridge contacts facing the carriage, slide the capsule into the correct slot. The color-coded icons on the cartridge and on the carriage signify the proper slot.

CAUTION:
Don't raise the printhead latch to put in the capsules. Lifting the latch can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and the printer won't function properly. Leave the latch down to install the cartridges correctly.

Press down to the cartridge until It's firmly seated. When the cartridge doesn't snap in to place or does not seat properly, take out the capsule out of the printhead. Gently bend the tab off from the capsule, then reinsert the capsule into the printhead.

CAUTION:

be cautious to not bend the tab out more than 1.27 cm (0.5 in). Moving the port too much might damage the cartridge or induce the tab to break off.

Solution four: Clean the electric contacts

Follow the following steps to clean the electrical contacts onto the capsules and Within the printer.
Gather these items:

  • sterile, lint-free newspaper to break the cartridges on (coffee filters perform very well )
  • Press the Power button to turn on the printer, even if it is not already on.
  • Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves into the middle of the printer. Wait before carriage gets idle and silent before continuing.

  • When the error message cites a specific cartridge, then find that capsule, then remove it from the knob. Carry on with the next thing.
  • When the error message does not cite a specific cartridge, then remove all of the cartridges, one at one time. Keep on with the next thing.

Learn: Remove the cartridge from the slot
Contain the cartridge by its sides together with the nozzle facing up.
Find the electric contacts on the bottom of the cartridge. The electrical contacts are just four small rectangles of copper-colored metal.

Scrub the electrical contacts with a clean, dry, cotton swab until no debris remains on them. Be certain no ink or debris smears onto the crystal clear window next to the electric contacts.
Put the cartridge on the wash, lint-free paper with a nozzle facing up.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

CAUTION:
you need to disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer to avoid a risk of harms or electric shock.
Get the electrical contacts inside the slot. The electrical contacts seem like a couple of four copper colored hooks and are situated at the front end of the carriage slot.

  • Wipe the electrical contacts in the printhead with an unused clean, sterile, cotton swab.
  • Twist the cartridge to the proper slot before it clicks into place. The color-coded icons on the cartridge and on the carriage indicate the proper slot.

Solution 5: Eliminate and reinsert the capsules again
Removing and reinserting the cartridges again can help resolve the problem. Repeat the steps that you completed earlier in this record to remove and reinsert the cartridges.
If the error message mentions a specific cartridge, find that cartridge, then remove it from the carriage.
When the error message doesn't cite a particular cartridge, then remove all of the cartridges, one at one time.

Option six: Clean the electric contacts

  • Fixing the electrical contacts can help resolve the situation. Repeat the steps that you performed earlier in this document to completely clean the electrical contacts of the cartridges.
  • When the error message cites a specific cartridge, then wash that cartridge.
  • When the error message doesn't mention a particular cartridge, wash each of the cartridges, one at a time.
  • Together with the merchandise fired up , disconnect the power cable in the back of the product.
  • Wait at least 15 minutes.
  • Plug the power cable back in to the wall socket.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  • In the event the product doesn't turn by itself, then press the Power button () to turn it on.

Option eight: Replace the cartridge

If the error message mentions a specific cartridge, then replace this cartridge having a new, genuine HP cartridge. If the error message doesn't cite a particular cartridge, then replace all of the cartridges.
Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not yet fired up. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing. The carriage moves into the middle of the product. Wait before carriage gets idle and quiet before continuing.

About the new cartridge, then pull the orange pulltab straight back again to take out the plastic wrap.

CAUTION:
Make sure that you remove the orange pull tab and plastic wrap thoroughly before you spin the orange cap at the alternative. Otherwise, ink might flow from your capsule. When you take away the plastic wrap, the newspaper label on the cover of the cartridge rips slightly, which is necessary to properly peel the cartridge.
Twist the orange cap counter clockwise to snap it off.

Learn: Eliminate the orange cap
Press down on the cartridge until it is firmly seated. If the cartridge doesn't snap in to place, or will not seat correctly, remove the capsule from the printhead. Gently bend the port off from the cartridge, then reinsert the cartridge into the printhead. Moving the tab too much may possibly damage the cartridge or induce the tab to break off.

Together with the cartridge connections facing the printhead, slide the cartridge to the vacant slot until it's firmly seated.

CAUTION:
Do not raise the latch next to the carriage to set up the cartridges. Doing so could result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down to install the cartridges properly.
Learn: Reinstall the cartridge
Repeat these steps for every cartridge you just replace.

Option 2: Alter the printhead

When the preceding solutions didn't resolve the issue, replace the printhead. Note nevertheless that printhead replacement is not recommended as a way for incompatible Cartridge' errors occurring with compatible cartridges. Contact HP support to obtain an alternative printhead.
